Five years of illustrated tutorials, all together in one complete archive. If you are new to drawing or just want to build more confidence, this is a good place to start. There are tutorials on all sorts of subjects: animals, plants, people, buildings, everyday objects, as well as introductions to different materials and ways of getting started when you are not sure where to begin. No experience needed, and no particular order to work through them in.
Tutorial Archive
A complete collection of illustrated how-to posts covering drawing, observation, and different media. Written to be friendly and approachable whatever your level.

My sketchbook is where most of my thinking happens. These collections are a window into that: pages from the studio, books I have filled over the years, and monthly prompts to draw alongside the community. Also occasional drawing on location videos.
Inside My Sketchbooks
Flick-throughs of older sketchbooks with notes on what I was thinking, available at Sketchbook Club and above. New in-depth sketchbook tours of current work are available in Harbour Studio only.
Drawing on Location
Sketching outside, away from the studio. What I drew, how I found the spot, what worked and what did not. Honest notes from drawing in the real world. A mix of Sketchbook Club and Harbour Studio content: not all videos in this collection are available at Sketchbook Club tier.
Creative Prompts New for 2026
Each month there is a new creative prompt that I actively work through alongside the community, often recording as I go. Prompts are a way of exploring an idea rather than following a brief: the subject is a starting point, not a destination. Working through a prompt can help develop your sketchbook practice, open up directions for children’s book thinking, or simply build the habit of reaching for your sketchbook every day. The approach varies: sometimes a subject, sometimes a way of looking, sometimes a way of working.
Journeys in Ink
Part drawing guide, part location diary. My own notes from sketching out and about: the best spots I have found, tips for drawing somewhere new, what to bring, and the kind of detail (including where to get a good coffee) that you only pick up from actually being there. Honest and personal rather than a formal guide. Access to some of this collection in this tier. Full access with Harbour Studio.

I spend a lot of time testing materials before I commit to using them in finished work. These posts document that properly: what I tried, how it behaved, what I would use it for and what I would not. Honest notes rather than recommendations. 125 posts across two collections.
Materials & Techniques
How I work with watercolour, ink, pencil, gouache and more. The approaches I have developed over years of picture book work, written up clearly so you can try them yourself.
Testing Materials
New papers, unusual tools, pigments I am still figuring out. Written in the moment, so the uncertainty is part of the post. More honest than any product review.

The quieter, in-between posts. What the studio looks and feels like day to day, what I am noticing, what is on the desk. Shorter and more conversational than the technique posts. The ongoing texture of the work rather than the finished output.
Studio Shorts
Short updates from the studio: what is on the table, how the week has gone, small observations from day to day. Most posts available at this tier. Some posts are Harbour Studio only.
From the Studio
Longer notes on what I have been thinking about, what has shifted in how I am working, and the ideas that do not fit neatly anywhere else. Most posts available at this tier. Some posts are Harbour Studio only.

These are recordings of our group drawing sessions on Zoom. Everyone draws together: you can bring whatever you are working on, or start something new on the day. They are relaxed and friendly, and a really nice way to draw alongside other people rather than on your own. The recordings stay in the archive so you can watch back whenever you like, even if you were not there on the day.
Live Drawing Replays
Recordings of our community Zoom drawing sessions. Everyone in the group draws together. Good company, no pressure, and all saved so you can dip in whenever suits you.

Each year there is a gentle creative project running alongside everything else in the community. There is a theme, and throughout the year new prompts and ideas get added for you to try if you fancy it. You can dip in and out as much or as little as you like, there is no pressure to keep up or complete anything. It is flexible and low key, and a nice way to try something a bit different. The 2024 Epic Journeys mini project is where the idea for my first author-illustrated book came from, which proves that you never know where ideas can spark from.
2026 Wild Worlds Current
This year’s project. Wild places, natural habitats, the animal world. Dip in whenever you like.
2025 Among the Trees
A year of drawing trees in all their forms. Complete and fully archived.
2024 Epic Journeys
Long migrations, great distances, animals that travel the world. Complete and fully archived.

How a picture book actually comes together, from the first rough ideas through to finished art. The decisions, the wrong turns, the conversations with editors, and the moments where the work starts to feel like itself. These posts cover the parts of picture book making that do not often get talked about.
Picture Book Process
A detailed ongoing record of how I develop a picture book from idea to finished illustration. From the first rough to the final art, with honest notes all the way through.

Curated collections of photos put together to give you something interesting to draw from. These are not videos on my illustration work, they are here purely to spark ideas and give you a good subject to sit down with and delve into. Most packs are available to Sketchbook Club and above, with some packs in Harbour Studio only. There are packs on all sorts of subjects: animals, birds, plants, textures, coastal scenes, and more.
Reference Photo Packs
Themed collections of photos curated to inspire drawing. A ready-made subject whenever you want something new to draw from. Free to use however you like.

Honest posts about the real side of being a self-employed illustrator. I record these when something comes up worth sharing: a decision I had to make, something I got wrong, something that worked better than expected. These cover the practical and the personal: scheduling, products and prints, the non-drawing side of illustration, and the kind of decision-making and mistakes that nobody really teaches you. This is personal experience and personal opinion, not professional advice. Just what has worked for me, what I wish I had known earlier, and what I am still figuring out.
Running a Creative Business
Pricing, finding work, talking to clients, the bits that nobody really teaches you. Informal, honest, and based entirely on my own experience rather than any kind of authority on the subject.
